Introduction

The subject of Anatomy is one of the basic subjects of medical sciences which is taught in the first and second year of MBBS program. The courses within the domain of Anatomy include General Anatomy, Histology or Microscopic Anatomy, Embryology or Developmental Anatomy, Regional or Gross Anatomy and Neuroanatomy. The department offers a modern integrated teaching system for students. The teaching hours are in accordance with the recommendations of Pakistan Medical Council. Our teaching methodology includes large group interactive sessions, case based learning sessions, dissection/ demonstrations and practical’s.

• To offer educational opportunities and convey emerging scientific knowledge to the students that contributes to improve personal development and professional fulfillment.
• To maintain the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.
• To provide the students with a thorough introduction of the characteristics, structure, development, function and clinical significance of the human body.
• To recognize anatomical structures, appreciate their developmental processes and apply their knowledge of anatomy to the cases that they will encounter during their clinical training and future careers as medical practitioners.

The Anatomy Department of Fazaia Medical College is comprised of:

DISSECTION HALL

A spacious and well lit dissection hall to accommodate 100 students at a time, having a mortuary with a capacity of four bodies, cadaveric specimens and multimedia to facilitate the students during demonstrations. Recently a very educational and informative audiovisual software has been added to the dissection hall.

ANATOMY MUSEUM

It is well equipped with models of Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Histology and Neuroanatomy. It has X-rays and cross-sectional models for teaching radiological and cross-sectional anatomy. Articulated and disarticulated skeletons with a bone bank is also available.

HISTOLOGY LABORATORY

The department is equipped with a furnished, spacious and well ventilated histology laboratory with 15 binocular microscopes and a slide projecting microscope with LED screen for demonstration of histological slides to the students. Recently the Histology laboratory has been equipped with Pentahead microscope which will further aid in understanding the histological details of various body tissues.
