The subject of Anatomy is one of the basic subjects of medical sciences, which is taught in the first and second year of MBBS program. The courses within the domain of Anatomy include General Anatomy, Histology or Microscopic Anatomy, Embryology or Developmental Anatomy, Regional or Gross Anatomy and Neuroanatomy. The department offers a modern integrated teaching system for students. The teaching hours are in accordance with the recommendations of Pakistan and Dental Council. Our teaching methodology includes large group interactive sessions, problem based learning sessions, small group discussions, dissection/ demonstrations and practicals.
To be a center of excellence in anatomical sciences, dedicated to fostering deep understanding of human structure and function through innovative education, groundbreaking research, and integrative clinical applications, ultimately preparing students to be highly skilled and empathetic medical professionals.
The department includes a spacious and well lit dissection hall where students are exposed to human cadavers and cadaveric specimens for three-dimensional understanding of human anatomy. Dissection hall has mortuary with a capacity of 4 cadavers, multimedia and a digital resource of virtual 3D anatomy software.
Anatomy department maintains an anatomical museum equipped with models of Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Histology and Neuroanatomy. It has X-rays, CT scans, MRI and cross-sectional models for teaching radiological and cross-sectional anatomy. Articulated and disarticulated skeletons with a bone bank is also available.
Histology laboratory is equipped with binocular microscopes, penta-head teaching microscope and a slide projecting microscope with LED screen for display of histological slides to students.
The department has qualified faculty including professor, associate professors, assistant professor, demonstrators and trained staff to facilitate teaching and learning.
Anatomy is taught in collaboration with basic sciences and various clinical specialties, including surgery, radiology, orthopeads, pediatrics and pathology to integrate anatomical knowledge into a comprehensive medical curriculum.
The department is engaged in research activities related to anatomical variations and innovative teaching methodologies.
The department evaluates student's understanding of anatomy through structured vivas (substages), integrated practical's and written examinations.
After strengthening its position in the undergraduate medical teaching, Anatomy department has upgraded itself to the next phase of medical education by offering post-graduation in the subject.
