World No Tobacco Day is observed each year on 31st May globally. This year, the Department of Community Medicine organized a World No Tobacco Day under the theme “Unmasking the Appeal: Countering the Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction” in collaboration with WHO.
The proceedings commenced with opening remarks by registrar, Air University, Air Commodore (R) Ahmed Hassan, who emphasized the importance of tobacco-free living. Brig. Prof Rizwan Hashim Acting Vice Principal also attended the ceremony. This was followed by an interactive lecture delivered by guest speaker Dr. Jose Martin Gallan, Head of Communication at WHO Pakistan, who highlighted global and national perspectives on tobacco control
Students of second year MBBS participated in a poster and 3D model competition featuring the theme of the year and their work was evaluated by FMC and WHO team. A handwritten poem along with a thought-provoking awareness reel promoting a tobacco-free life was also presented by students.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Khan, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, who encouraged students to help create a smoke-free environment and adopt healthy lifestyles for themselves and their communities. Finally shields and certificates were presented to winners of the poster competition The program ended with a group photograph of the participants and guests, reaffirming their commitment to a tobacco free world.
